The conductor and composer Ektoras Tartanis becomes the new chief conductor of the Niederbayerische Philharmonie. He will start his tenure office at the beginning of the 2023/24 season. The German with Greek roots is already known to the audience of the Landestheater Niederbayern through his guest conducting at the enthusiastically received Christmas concert 2023.

In the coming season, Tartanis will conduct the new production of Gaetano Donizetti's opera "L elisir d’amore" as well as six symphony concerts. The conductor will make his informal debut at the end of this season at the symphony concert at the Niederbayerische Burgfestspiele in Landshut and Passau. "Ektoras Tartanis and the Niederbayerische Philharmonie share the common ambition to sharpen the symphonic profile of the orchestra and to inspire their audience and attract new listeners in the region with a variety of programs with classical music," says the press release.

Ektoras Tartanis studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and graduated with honors from the Anton Bruckner University in Linz. His previous professional positions have taken him as 1st Kapellmeister and associated general music director to the Stadttheater Bremerhaven and to the Theater Freiburg, where he is holds the position of the 1st Kapellmeister since the 2019/20 season. He received important impulses from his artistic mentor Teodor Currentzis, whom he assisted for several years. He has conducted among other orchestras the Rundfunkorchester München, the SWR Symphony Orchestra, Musica Aeterna and the State Orchestra of Athens and Thessaloniki.
